Sporades

SPORADES ISLANDS lie off the eastern shore of mainland Greece, northeast of the island of Euboea. The archipelago consists of 24 islands of which only four are inhabited: Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos and Skyros. These Greek islands are characterised by dense vegetation and mountainous terrain each of these has its own beauty and charm and has something unique to offer to the visitor.

During the months of April and May, the islands are carpeted with a profusion of wild flowers, such as poppies, wild irises and freesias. The weather is mainly sunny and warm, with occasional showers, and cool evenings. The sea is usually cool and warms up towards the mid of May. The average temperature in July is 26.7°C and 10°C in January.

There is a feeling of activity and excitement as everyone prepares for the summer season ahead. In April, the Greek orthodox Easter festivities are definitely worth experiencing. April and May are ideal months for walking, painting and all special interest holidays.

There are daily connections between the islands in the Sporades, meaning that you will be able to pop over to one of the neighbouring islands, as well as taking the ferry boats to the city of Volos, or the region of Agios Konstantinos, which is close to the popular resort of Kamena Vourla in Fthtioda. Skiathos is the only island with an international airport.
