KOMIZA is a town and harbour at the foot of the Hum hill (587 m) situated on the western coast of the island of Vis.Economy is based on farming, vine and vegetable growing, fishing and fish processing, seafaring and in recent times on tourism. On the eastern coast of the bay are large sand and pebble beaches (Gusarica, Nova Posta, Velo Zalo). Komiza has regular ferry connections with Split; the regional road connects Komiza with the town of Vis.
The town is known for its desserts made from carob that go well with famous wines from Komiza. Komiza offers excellent accommodation in the hotel or private apartments, as well as extensive sports and recreational offer including boccia, basketball, volleyball, handball and soccer, as well as water sports, such as diving, sailing and windsurfing. The cultural and entertainment offer consists of the events organised during the Komiza Summer Festival.
Cultural and historical heritage includes a 15th century fortalice in the harbor, Sv. Nikola monastery from the 13th century, Romanesque church from the 13th century, Baroque shrine from the 16th century and several Secession buildings.
It has typical Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild and wet winters. The average temperature in January is 9°C and 26°C in July.
